Christmas Decorating Ideas For The Front Porch ( & A Giveaway)

My small porch is all decked out for Christmas this year and I’m looking forward to having a full month to enjoy it. Today I wanted to share some of my easy Christmas decorating ideas for the front porch with you.

The first thing I wanted to do was have a full-sized Christmas tree on the porch. But rather than getting a 6 or 7-foot tree, I went with a 5-foot Christmas tree. I placed it in a radio flyer wagon for additional height.

I wanted to incorporate the wagon somewhere and when I saw the prices of 7-foot Christmas trees, that made the decision easy.

The tree is a Balsam Fir and I found it at the Home Depot for $30. I really would’ve preferred a Frasier Fir but couldn’t find one in the right size or price range.

For the porch tree, I wanted to decorate it with a natural garden theme. I foraged my backyard to see what I could use.

The grapevine-style branches that I wrapped around the tree are the growth that was left on my hosta plants. I was going to use actual grapevine, but the color of the hosta branches showed up much better on the tree.

Next, I cut a bunch of hydrangeas from the yard and added those to the porch tree.

After that, I added preserved Bell Gum and dried mushroom stems.

Lastly, I tucked a few of these large seed pods into the tree. No ornaments were used on this tree except for the tree topper, which is a large dove ornament. I bought several of those on sale this year and used them inside the house as well, which I’ll share more about next week.

Winter Planters

When you have a small front porch you have to be strategic about what you have on it. I always want it to look abundant but not cluttered.

Some of the plants in my porch planters were still alive from the summer so I kept what I could. I also planted pansies in the fall and they’re still going strong.

To replace all the other plantings, I bought a few cabbage plants I found at the garden center in both white and purple. I don’t recall ever seeing these before but they seem to love the cold.

To make the planters look more full, I tucked in sprigs of fresh evergreen garlands.

And my best winter planter tip is to cut branches from evergreen trees and stick them into your planters. It looks so good and will last a long time!

Two of my favorite trees for this are Frasier Firs and Pine trees. You can see those tucked in all around my porch. I also will sometimes use the Fir branches as Christmas tree fillers.

The winner will receive one 18′ fresh cedar garland. In the event that the garland sells out, the winner will instead receive one premium red wreath. Both are amazing – good luck!

I even used a tiny sprig of the garland to make a little wreath for my birdhouse. My husband thought this was hilarious.

The two wreaths on the windows are a few years old, and they’re not real. But they are so nice I bought a third one this year when they went on sale. I used that one around the base of the planter on the white stool.

I hope you found some easy Christmas decorating ideas for the front porch that you can use today! Even if you don’t have a porch, you can use these ideas for your front door area.

Below are a few shoppable links to some of the items I used on my porch.
