WHAT TOP MAGAZINES & DESIGNERS ARE PREDICTING WILL BE THE BIGGEST VINTAGE HOME DECOR TRENDS FOR 2025

When it comes to vintage home decor trends, I will start by saying buying antique and vintage isn’t a trend, it’s a lifestyle! Once it gets into your system you can’t go back to mass-produced and store-bought items.

Additionally, beauty is in the eye of the beholder so go with what you love because that is what you’ll be happiest living with.

I’ve learned this from too many years of following one interior design trend after another. During the last two years of planning to move and renovate our next house, I’ve given this a lot of thought. For the new house I’m sticking with things I love now, things I’ve always loved, and trying to stay away from anything that I may like because it’s popular today.

That said, I do love to see what’s trending in design!

Timeless Elegance: Top Vintage Home Decor Trends

Vintage home décor trends offer a perfect balance of nostalgia and sophistication, allowing you to create spaces that are both stylish and rich with character.

I’ve reviewed predictions from top interior designers and leading design magazines for this year’s vintage home decor trends, and here’s a list of the most commonly featured picks.

  • Dark Wood Furniture
  • Painted Furniture
  • Vintage Quilts and Textiles
  • Patterned Upholstery
  • Windsor Chairs
  • Art Deco and Art Nouveau
  • Original Paintings
  • Vintage Rugs
  • Earth Tones

Dark Wood Furniture

When it comes to furniture, vintage pieces add character and never go out of style.

Antique dark wood furniture was high on most lists of trends this year. I have noticed more and more darker wood tones on Instagram in the last year couple of years. That being said, in my antique shop the lighter wood tones are what sell much faster, especially pine and raw wood pieces.

Additionally, dark wood isn’t for everyone so I think any vintage furniture is a safe bet regardless of wood color. If you don’t want to start with something large like a dining set, smaller pieces are a good place to experiment. Look for pieces like coffee tables and see how that changes the look of your living room.

Painted Furniture

Yes, you read that right! Painted furniture was on several lists – but here’s the catch. Original painted antique furniture only! I know my heart still skips a beat when I see a gorgeous old piece with true chippy paint.

Vintage Quilts and textiles

This was not on every list but I wanted to include it because I agree with this one. Mostly because when I’m out sourcing for shop items I have noticed the prices of vintage quilts rising shockingly high.

This may also be because people love to use old quilts to create new things such as pillows, clothing, and Christmas stockings. More people shopping for these items creates higher demand and higher prices.

Patterned upholstery

Patterned upholstery pieces are another trend I’ve seen a lot of on Instagram. My favorite designer, Heidi Callier, mixes multiple patterns in each room design, making it look effortless.

This is one of those trends that I’ve thought a lot about. I have always loved patterned upholstery and textiles so this is something I will be keeping in mind for our next house. I can move forward with this knowing I love it not just because it’s trending now.

Floral prints and gingham patterns remind me of my grandmother. They’re more in keeping with vintage style than geometric shapes and prints.

Windsor Chairs

I have to admit, I have a vintage chair addiction. My storage unit is full of old chairs because they’re easy to find and usually very affordable! I hold on to them until I can find tables to pair them with for the antique shop.

While Windsor chairs only made Veranda’s list, I wanted to include them because Windsor chairs are a classic that will never go out of style.

You can also read more about the different styles of antique Windsor chairs here. It’s an interesting article if you like antiques.

Art Deco and Art Nouveau

This one isn’t for everyone, you need to have a very specific style or eclectic taste to pull this look off, but it was mentioned on several top lists this year. I see this look more in rooms designed by interior designers than in everyday homes.

However, I do like the idea of mixing home decor pieces from these categories into a home that has antiques mixed with modern decor. With art nouveau, in particular, you can find some really unique home decor pieces that will add another layer to your rooms.

For example the amazing peacock vase above. How often do you see anything so unique? I love art nouveau decor for adding that unexpected element to homes decorated in other vintage decor styles.

A vintage chandelier in the art nouveau style would also be a great way to add vintage charm in a big way!

Maybe a blog post on amazing art nouveau vintage home decor accent pieces is in order, what do you think?

Original paintings

Original paintings weren’t mentioned on most magazine lists, but folk art was. At my antique shop, I have seen an increase in sales of original artwork. I love all artwork whether it’s an original oil painting or a vintage reproduction of the original.

Repros are a great option if you can’t find the right subject material or colors to match your decor. And if you put them in old picture frames without glass it will look original!

There’s a reason I love vintage art so much. Much like a good book can transport you to another time or place, so can art. One picture can tell a whole story (that you can interpret). I love that.

Each piece of art can be a statement piece on its own!

vintage rugs

Vintage rugs, especially Turkish rugs are another vintage trend I’ve been seeing on Instagram more and more in recent years.

Much like antique furniture, a vintage rug can add instant character to a room. They can be found in a wide range of color schemes from bold colors to muted designs. Antique area rugs make a great addition to any room, whether you go with a large-sized area rug or a small runner.

earthy tones

After years of all white and gray everything, warmer colors are in. This is another trend I love that will last. Warm, neutral colors are more inviting and more welcoming.

Don’t worry if you have all gray walls, you can warm up the room in other ways, such as with vintage artwork, furniture, and textiles. In the room above, I had painted the walls a light gray several years ago. Adding the warm wood tones with vintage art in earthy colors warmed up the entire room instantly.

Where to find vintage pieces

I’m always on the hunt for vintage pieces whenever I go out. Because they’ve grown so much in popularity it is harder and harder to find great pieces at affordable prices.

Antique stores are a great place to find statement pieces and good quality items. However, don’t overlook thrift stores for smaller pieces and antique decor. While you have to look often in thrift stores to find something great, when you do it’s worth the hunt!

Additionally, I love to shop flea markets, Though those can be hit or miss, I usually find my best bargains there.

For vintage rugs and unique decor, check Etsy. If I look long enough I can usually find a reasonable deal on Turkish rugs. You can also search by specific time period (example: Victorian era decor, or early 1900s paintings) to help narrow down your search.

Additionally, combine elements from multiple periods, for creative storytelling through design.

Vintage shopping for pieces to go in your own home can take patience and time but as your collection grows, you’ll be amazed at how it transforms your house. I love mixing antiques with modern decor in my own home.

I love antique pieces for so many reasons. They add warmth, and character, and remind me of a simpler time before social media became so huge. Focus was more on home, family, and friends. Not to mention the quality of old wood furniture was built to last.

  1. Estate sales are another great source for vintage items, antiques, and original artwork. Consignment stores are too, especially upscale shops. This is not thrifting, but prices are much lower than if sold by a vendor. Some nice pieces can also pop up on Facebook Marketplace.

    1. Thanks Ruth, I do shop all of those resources too. I love marketplace but lately I’m finding it harder to find good things at a fair price.
