Think you can’t have beautiful home decor on a budget?

What if I told you everything in this post today is from Walmart? This isn’t a sponsored post – I just like to challenge myself. 🙂

You know me—I love making a space feel cozy and pretty, but I’m not about to spend a fortune doing it. Decorating on a budget has kind of become my thing, and honestly, I think it makes the process more fun. It’s like a treasure hunt.

One reason I ended up loving vintage home decor is that I’m usually able to find nice things on a budget. There’s nothing like finding the perfect piece with a low price tag. It’s fun to find beautiful antiques, but when I pay top dollar, it’s just not the same.

Affordable Dining Room Ideas

I love a pretty dining nook, and creating one is easy, even if you don’t have much space. Any corner will do!

While saturated colors are trending this year, I still love a good monochromatic space. Here, I used a round rustic table for texture and character. Paired with slipcovered chairs in white and cafe curtains in linen. The round area rug ties those two neutral colors together so well!

The blue and white plates add a subtle bit of color and would look pretty hung on the wall. For a larger dining room, swap out the table for a larger, rectangular one instead.

I realize more people are working on their gardens than bedrooms this time of year. However, when I saw this beautiful spindle bedframe, I had to create a mood board around it. It looks like an antique bed frame, but because it’s new, you won’t have the issue of finding an antique-sized mattress to fit it.

It also comes in white if you prefer a lightened up look. The patterned bedding shown looks very similar to the bedding I found at Target a few years back, which is still my favorite. The plaid rug comes in other colors, including a subtle tan shade that would also work in this mood board.

Curtains can also run high these days. The curtain panels shown here are blackout and have pinch pleats for a higher-end look. You get two panels (some places sell by single panel!) for under $50.

The ceiling fixture light matches the bedside lamp well with frosted glass and brass accents.

At the end of the day, creating a beautiful bedroom doesn’t have to mean matching sets or high-end price tags. And you’ll probably sleep better knowing you didn’t spend a fortune.

Patio ideas on a budget

Of course, most of us are working on our outdoor spaces right now, so I couldn’t resist creating a patio setting as well.

The patio umbrella with the white fringe is a favorite of mine and that’s what inspired the rest of the patio items here. The outdoor bench looks like it could be vintage, as does the fountain.

Additionally, the sectional sofa reminds me of one from Pottery Barn, definitely a great pick if you want the look for less. The sofa and the outdoor rug make this patio feel like it’s an extension of your home. And the LED string lights add instant cozy ambiance.

All items shown on these mood boards (plus more) can be found here on my Walmart storefront.

More Budget Decorating Tips

Supplementing new home decor with vintage is a great way to get a layered look. Good vintage pieces at great prices seem a little harder to find these days, but if you keep looking, you will find bargains.

Shop often and look everywhere. It takes a lot of searching to find great things on a budget.

I also love using printables for wall art. They’re super affordable, and you can switch them out whenever you want without feeling guilty. Often, I’ll look for old frames to use with vintage-style printables for a more authentic look.

Bring nature in with plants or large branches to add life to a room. You can cut branches from your own backyard and not spend any money to do this.

Sometimes, simply rearranging furniture or moving decor from one room to another gives everything a fresh new feel without spending a dime.

One last tip is one I heard from Nate Berkus many years ago when he was on Oprah. He said if you can’t afford to redecorate a whole room at once, buy one thing with each paycheck. After a few months, you’ll have a styled space. Having a plan helps with this method, such as using a design board (like one of these) with a list of things to purchase.

Create A Home You Love (For Less)!

We’ve all admired perfectly styled homes on Pinterest and Instagram, or in a magazine. You know the ones: cozy, curated, and effortlessly beautiful. But here’s what no one tells you – how expensive it is to get the effortless look. But it doesn’t have to be! With a little creativity and shopping smart, you can have a home that feels high-end without blowing your budget!

Don’t disregard discount stores like Walmart for affordable home decor that looks expensive. I’ve been watching them for years, and they bring in great brands such as Better Homes and Gardens, which deliver great home decor at affordable prices. With the cost of everything so high right now, every bit helps!
