Vintage Style Christmas Decor Ideas
CREATE A COZY, NOSTALGIC HOLIDAY LOOK WITH VINTAGE STYLE CHRISTMAS DECOR AND FRESH GREENERY!
Two vintage finds that I picked up recently inspired my Christmas mantel this year. I found two German paper mache Christmas carolers that set the tone for everything.
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m keeping it as simple as I can this holiday season due to moving. For that reason, I used things I had readily on hand without pulling out all my Christmas bins. (Which, I’ve realized are way too many!)
Christmas Decorating With Vintage Decor
Using vintage-style Christmas decor brings timeless charm and nostalgia to your holiday celebrations. Incorporate antique ornaments, vintage garlands, ceramic trees, and heirloom stockings for a cozy, classic look. It’s the perfect way to create a warm, festive atmosphere with a touch of history!
Christmas Mantel Decor
I have stacks of old books all around the house. What adds warmth better than old books? Books will always be one of my favorite things to decorate with. Whenever I see hardcover books at estate sales or the thrift store, I snatch them up.
I pulled out books in the colors that matched my little carolers. The traditional red and green color scheme brings a classic and festive feel to our Christmas decor.
For the center of the mantel, I wanted to beef up my holiday display with something big. I grabbed my old silver ice bucket to fill it with fresh greenery. I enjoy gardening and greenery so much that I feel adding it to my holiday displays is a good reflection of my personal style.
For you, that may be something else. Maybe you have a love of the beach, are a dog person, or something else. Whatever it is, work it into your holiday decor for your own personal touch.
Fresh Christmas Greenery
Additionally, combining old vintage items with fresh flowers and greens always looks beautiful because they contrast so well.
Most of these are branches I cut from our new backyard. Foraging in that yard is truly enjoyable! I’ve recently shared a bit of it on my Instagram stories.
How cute are these little carolers? My daughter said she is a little creeped out by them but I think they’re sweet.
Vintage Brass Decorations
Brass candlesticks and brass deer are more vintage items I always buy if I see them at a good price. It’s crazy how much some people will charge for these items.
The prices for brass deer have especially gone up in the last couple of years. However, I did see these new brass deer at a reasonable price.
Due to the move, I didn’t want to use fresh greenery across the mantel this year. Because we will be having house showings in December, I was worried it would get too dried out and messy.
Rather than using fresh, I bought this faux pinecone garland (I used two strands of it). I added the red berry bead garland (excellent price on those!) I already had as well as a set of pinecone string lights.
At the bottom of the mantel, I kept it simple with two more brass deer and an old crock filled with dried mushroom stems. The crock really needs some greenery in it too but I was afraid my cats would eat that and get sick.
Mini Tree With Vintage Trimmings
Also in my living room entryway, I added a faux mini Christmas tree. I placed the tree in an old brass planter I have. The tree itself isn’t the best but I used a set of really old vintage ornaments that are so beautiful. I believe they are miniature shiny brite ornaments.
It’s amazing how the old glass ornaments have really stood the test of time.
There is also a strand of miniature antique mercury glass bead garland I found on Facebook marketplace. It’s really pretty.
To compliment the vintage Christmas ornaments, I added gold tinsel to complete my tree trimmings.
Then I topped it with a vintage finial in keeping with my retro Christmas decorations.
Vintage style Christmas decor is one of the best ways to add a touch of nostalgia while creating new memories at Christmas time.
Even though I’m keeping it simple this year, I am enjoying a bit of the old world Christmas vibes. Everything I used was recent finds so only one Christmas bin got pulled out.
Christmas Flowers
I also picked up a couple of Amaryllis bulbs to get started. Now is the time to start them for December blooms. Same goes for Paperwhites. I decided to skip those this year because they get a little messy when they are full-grown.
I like to put them in old crocks or antique tins, with a glass of water placed inside.
It doesn’t look like much now but when it blooms it’ll be beautiful. You can see how I used this for a Christmas centerpiece last year.
Overall, I’m going with simple, yet classic Christmas decor this year.
If you love all out vintage Christmas decorations, you should check out Vintage Holiday on Instagram, his work is beautiful and his holiday collection is extensive. For me, I always go with a more restrained approach to my decorating because that feels better to me, especially in a small house.
