Valentines Wreath DIY
THIS ADORABLE VALENTINES WREATH DIY IS EASY TO CREATE USING ONLY A FEW SIMPLE MATERIALS AND A PREMADE WREATH FORM!

Our home felt a little bare after the holidays, so I decided to get creative and make a Valentine’s Day wreath to brighten things up.
I was inspired by a cute little antique shop I visited. The owner had fabric hearts and wreaths displayed that caught my eye. The wreaths reminded me of the rag garland banner I made years back, and I knew it would be easy to recreate.
You can make it with ribbon or fabric, which makes for a cute shabby chic look.
This is one of the easiest ways to make your own wreath.
Materials Needed for Wreath

This wreath is as easy as it is cute. All you need is ribbon or fabric, scissors, and a wire form as the base. I used a heart shape. No messy hot glue gun or wire cutters are needed for this one!
- Heart-shaped wire form
- Assorted ribbon or strips of fabric
- Scissors
I used four different types of ribbon for this one. Red, white lace, red striped, and red gingham. Each roll of ribbon was either 3 or 4 yards and with the four rolls, I had plenty, with leftover.
If you don’t have ribbon, you could also use scraps of fabric to get this same look. Simply cut the fabric into strips.
I wanted my Valentine’s wreath to be in the shape of a heart so I used a wreath form already in that shape. I went with a metal form over a styrofoam wreath form to make this as fun and simple as possible.
My wreath form is 8″. I wanted the 12″ heart form, but they were back ordered and would take too long. Michael’s store didn’t have any heart-shaped forms but you may be able to find them at the dollar store or hobby lobby.
Instructions for valentines wreath diy
Making this fun wreath is so easy! Mainly because the wire form is ideal for this method of wreath-making.
The first step is to cut your ribbon into approximately 3″-4″ lengths. Start with a few before cutting them all to get a feel for which length is best. I purposely did NOT cut mine all exactly the same, it lends to the look of this wreath for them to not be perfect.

Next, place a ribbon around the wire form, as shown below.

Then, tie the ribbon around the wire as if you were going to tie your shoes but don’t make a bow.

Continue adding ribbon, alternating the colors and patterns as you go. What type of ribbon doesn’t matter, you can use wired or unwired. The wire is slightly harder to tie but it allows you to shape it better when you’re done.
Don’t worry if your ribbon has different widths, it only adds to the charm.
Adding A Ribbon for hanging
When I was about halfway done, I tied a hanging ribbon at the top of the heart.

For the hanger ribbon, I doubled it, slid it under the wreath, and pulled the ribbon through the hole. If you don’t like that method, you can tie it onto the wreath form.

Lastly, continue adding ribbon around the entire wreath until it looks nice and full. Once it’s full, stand back and look at it. Mine looked like this.

Here, you’ll need to fluff it up and arrange the ribbon so it looks right. I went back and trimmed some of my ribbon pieces that were too long in areas. This also helped me shape the ribbon into a heart shape.

It’s easier to do that last step while the wreath is hanging so you can get a better view of the overall finished wreath. Isn’t that adorable?
ribbon wreath Variation ideas
You guys, there are so many ways you could mix this up for different variations!
One option is to use different colors if you’d like to be able to use the wreath for different seasons. For example pink and white would work for Easter and Spring as well.
Other ideas are to embellish it with faux flowers, try using different colors and patterns, or create an ombre look with color blocks.
I will absolutely be making more of these, I’m already working on one for St. Patrick’s Day.
This simple wreath would be a great craft project for kids. It would keep them busy for a couple of hours on a cold winter day!
Valentines wreath DIY Display ideas

Here you can see my wreath hanging over a cabinet door. I wanted to hang it over my mantel with a few simple Valentine’s Day decorations but the 8″ form made it too small for that option. (update: I hung it over the mantel anyway and it doesn’t look bad.)

Of course, it would be very pretty on a front door as well! Since we replaced our front door I don’t hang wreaths because I don’t have anything to hook them to.
I love a pretty handmade wreath, don’t you? Store-bought wreaths don’t have the charm that DIY wreaths have.

I’m also put together a video tutorial for this one, in case anyone needs a better visual. You can see the Valentine’s wreath how-to video here.
Valentine’s Day Mantel Decorations

I did end up decorating my mantel with this wreath even though I thought it was a bit small. Overall, it looks cute though! I mixed pink and dark red candles and hung simple Valentine’s day garland to make it festive.

While I don’t go crazy decorating for Valentine’s Day, it feels good to brighten up the house during these long, gray winter months!
