Natural Christmas Decorating Ideas 2023

If you guys have been around here awhile you know I love natural Christmas decorating ideas.

Bringing fresh greenery and garden elements indoors really helps to liven up the house during the holiday season! It also helps me get a little garden therapy during the winter months.

Combining natural elements with vintage items is another favorite style of mine. Older items with patina just pair so well with florals!

Christmas Mantel

My Christmas mantel is similar to how I decorated it last year with a few minor changes. You’d never know this isn’t a natural wreath, it is so realistic!

I used to use my fresh garland on the mantel but it would dry out too soon considering I usually decorate early. Now I keep my fresh garland outside on my porch with my outdoor Christmas decorations. You can see how I hung it around my front door here.

This year, I also added a magnolia garland across the front for more lush greenery.

If you miss the scent of a fresh wreath or tree, you can use scented candles (this one smells just like a Christmas tree) or even pop a few cinnamon sticks into the faux greenery.

You can see a large pine cone at the bottom of the mantel. I bought several of those this year and have put them to good use. They’re tucked all around the house and porch this year.

Pine cones are a simple way to bring in more natural materials as well as texture.

The brass angels and deer are all vintage finds. However, the golden bird was an ornament I picked up this year. I loved it so much, I bought several of those and used them throughout the house.

Easy IDea: Natural Christmas Tree With Baby’s Breath

While I prefer real Christmas trees, I mostly use artificial trees inside so I can have them up longer. We usually put ours up during Thanksgiving weekend.

However, I love the look of a beautiful evergreen tree and I don’t love filling it all up with ornaments.

This year, rather than using lots of ornaments, I went with mostly natural decorations, similar to the woodland-themed tree I did a few years ago.

First, I added baby’s breath flowers. My initial idea was to use only the baby’s breath and nothing else, but it looked a little bare so I ended up adding more.

The simple beauty of this looks so elegant!

I kept the baby’s breath light because I didn’t want it to end up looking like a flocked Christmas tree. Though I like that look, it’s not what I was going for.

In addition to the flowers, I added a couple of strands of faux magnolia as one of my Christmas tree fillers that would match my natural theme.

Then I found these pretty white ornaments on sale. The shape is beautiful and they have a velvet finish.

Next, I was going to use velvet ribbon tied onto the branches but decided against it. The reason for that is simply because everyone is doing that these days. Rather, I added my battery-operated candles.

All these natural elements liven up my small living room! I even added baby’s breath to the mantel garland and wreath to match the tree.

Lastly, I used a deer tree topper which goes well with the vintage deer I have on the mantel.

My Christmas tree is a pre-lit and it has so many lights it looks beautiful at night. Pictures don’t do it justice.

Small Foyer Christmas Decorating Ideas

As with my small front porch, my foyer is small in size but I try to make it big on style.

The soft red poinsettia matches perfectly with my old country quilt. Red berries were added to an antique crock on the floor which doubles as an umbrella stand.

Often, the best natural Christmas decorations can be found right in your yard!! Shopping in nature is a great way to save money on seasonal decor.

I hung more fresh greenery around the mirror with string lights, star ornaments, and another golden dove. They were all attached with a little bit of floral wire.

All simple ideas that when paired together make a big impact.

Around the TV area, I decided not to add any Christmas decorations this year. A lot is going on here already.

Rather than filling the table with Christmas decor, I changed the art on the TV to a Christmas photo. A simple nod to the Christmas season.

Lastly in my living room, I decorated this very old shelving unit I found for a steal on Facebook marketplace. I had intended to take this to the antique shop but it fit so perfectly here I couldn’t part with it.

It brings a nice rustic touch to this corner.

I kept the shelves simple with my gingerbread houses and a few small ornaments hung from a stocking holder.

I hope you found some natural Christmas decorating ideas you can use. It’s so much fun to challenge yourself to come up with creative ideas this time of year!

Often, the simple ideas look the best! At least in my opinion!

Merry Christmas!

I have been decorating my tree with baby’s breath for at least the last 30 years. I love the look it gives the tree. I do add many ornaments which have sentimental memories for our family. It actually makes the tree look old fashioned which is something I love.

    1. It sounds beautiful, Jackie!
