Converted Barn House Tour
You guys, I have a real treat for you today! I’m taking you on a tour of this converted barn. This house used to be a barn and was recently renovated and designed by my very talented interior designer friend, Alyson of Inspirational Interior Designs. While we were out shopping one day, she took me by it to show it to me. I was so impressed I asked her if I could photograph it to share here on the blog. You might want to grab a cup of coffee, there are lots of pictures today!
To give you an idea of what she started with, I made a collage using a few of her before photos from the old barn.
The views outside of the converted barn are amazing in every direction. Here is one shot from the front porch.
When you open the front door, this is what you first see. Isn’t it incredible? I told you she is talented! The columns were original to the old barn and left untouched. The venting was also original but has been painted black giving it the perfect industrial farmhouse vibe. I love the pop of color she added with the blue accent chairs and watercolor round rug.
Off the right is the beautiful white kitchen. The barstools again continue the industrial farmhouse style decor.
There’s another entry door into the kitchen. This cute bench was a DIY project Alyson made. She added hairpin legs to a piece of wood that was from the original barn. She added the wall rack, creating a cute entryway nook, perfect for stopping to take off your shoes.
To the left of the main sitting area is a living room. This room is not totally finished yet. There is a blue sofa still on order that will be placed opposite of these chairs and coffee table. A TV will be hung above the empty ledge.
What I really love is that much of the original wood was left in place where it made sense to do so. The horseshoes hanging were here from the start and left untouched as well.
Here is a wider view that better shows the open layout of the house. The bathroom is tucked behind the kitchen.
The original staircase was removed, and a spiral staircase was installed leading up to the second floor.
This is what you first see when you get up the stairs. The second floor of the converted barn is no less breathtaking with its amazing views. The upstairs is a loft space, with 4 distinct sections.
Here is a better shot of the desk area.
The beautiful upstairs sitting area continues the industrial farmhouse theme with the metal and wood coffee table and matching side table.
I love this coffee table vignette, I imagine curling up on that couch with a good book.
Here is the view from the other side of the loft that better shows the cathedral ceilings and skylights.
The wood railings are from the old barn. Originally there was chicken wire connecting them, but that was replaced with this more modern cable wire keeping with the modern, industrial farmhouse design. You can see the view from above in this shot. I love the matching chandeliers on each side.
Here is the bedroom side of the loft. One side is the sleeping area.
Opposite the bed is another small sitting area and a dresser (not shown). I love the french script armchair (similar here), which is slightly visible from the outside when approaching the house, paired with this inlaid metal side table.
It’s truly such an incredible transformation. A big thank you to my friend Alyson for letting me share her work here with you. Every detail of this converted barn is so well done! You can visit her blog and find out more about her design services at Inspirational Interior Designs.

That is absolutely stunning. So inviting. Great job.
Roxanne, thank you so much for your ever so flattering sharing of my (& my amazingly talented Contractor Kevin Thompson’s) work. I was so happy to share it with you! xoxo Alyson Inspirational Interior Designs
This is such a cool space with the open upstairs. Your friend did a fantastic job with the decorating. Now you ‘ve got me pining for those blue chairs.
Great job. The house looks bright, spacious and neat with all those contemporary decor and furniture. I love it!!
The place looks amazing, you did a wonderful job! I love how everything is new, clean and neat, and when you look at the entire space, you can clearly see that it has a barn-like construction, only the hay is missing. Your friend has a very good taste.
Love the overall look but I think the sitting room is not a favourite of mine. Too many columns etc. for such a small room.
