Red, White, And Blue Decorating Ideas For Your Home And Table
BRING PATRIOTIC CHARM INTO YOUR HOME WITH THESE EASY RED, WHITE, AND BLUE DECORATING IDEAS FOR INDOORS, OUTDOOR SPACES, AND TABLE SETTINGS!
It’s that time of year when decorating with red, white, and blue for the summer holidays is back.

The secret to patriotic decorating that still feels timeless is keeping things classic. Think vintage-inspired flags, navy blue accents, simple florals, and just enough color to hint at Americana style without going overboard.
Whether youโre hosting a backyard gathering, setting the table for a summer dinner, or simply adding a few seasonal touches around your home, these ideas will help you create a cozy red, white, and blue look with vintage cottage charm.
Outdoor Red, White, and Blue Decorating Ideas
Outdoor spaces are the perfect place to lean into patriotic colors without making your home feel overly themed.

I rarely use anything red inside my home, so in the summer I like to mix it up with red accents outside. My very simple red, white, and blue front porch from a few years back was a favorite of mine. I used a vintage quilt over the bench in a faded red color and added a few small flags into a planter.
To kick that up a notch for a bigger display while still keeping it simple, you could add more flags in various sizes.
Another idea is to add layers that already work with your homeโs style. A faded flag draped over a porch railing, blue cushions on a weathered bench, or red geraniums planted in aged terra cotta pots instantly create that classic summer Americana feeling.
I do love the idea of incorporating coastal style into a Fourth of July display; they go together so well. Pottery Barn, especially, does that very well and is a good place to look for more inspiration.
Below, a simple but eye-catching bunting draws you to this porch. The addition of a subtle wreath and pretty planters with blue flowers and flags is also very pretty, in a classic way.

Wreaths made from natural greenery with subtle ribbon accents also feel far more timeless than anything glittery or overly bright. Or, create a simple DIY red, white, and blue wreath yourself.
And donโt underestimate the charm of old buckets or woven baskets filled with white hydrangeas or tiny American flags. You could also tuck flags into garden planters.
Another idea I had saved for myself is the front door basket (above) filled with mini flags rather than a wreath. I noticed mini flags are significantly more expensive this year. You could also consider making those yourself, such as the ones shown below.

I made those vintage-inspired mini flags almost 10 years ago, using fabric scraps, and I still have them.
For outdoor evening gatherings, string lights and candle lanterns add warmth and make everything feel cozy and welcoming.

Easy Outdoor Styling Ideas
- Vintage watering cans filled with flowers
- Navy striped outdoor pillows
- Layered neutral doormats with subtle patriotic accents
- Antique crocks or baskets for planters/flag displays
- Soft ticking stripe table linens for patio dining
- White lanterns with candles for evening ambiance
A few simple ideas can go a long way, without spending a ton of time or money on the holiday. You could even just hang a large American flag on your shed or garage to set the tone.
Indoor Patriotic Decor with Cottage Charm
While Fourth of July celebrations are usually an outdoor event, I did want to include a few indoor patriotic decorating ideas. It’s a fun holiday to decorate for.
If you already have blue furniture, like the living room below, simply adding a few pops of red makes it holiday-ready.

If your home is more neutral, it’s easy enough to incorporate red, white, and blue decor. Add a few pillows, a throw blanket, a quilt, or an American flag.
Simple Indoor Decorating Ideas
If you are having company for the holiday, another fun idea would be to add holiday decor to your guest room. It doesn’t have to be overly themed.

The bedroom above is a good example of keeping it simple yet festive. A colorful quilt and a pretty throw pillow go a long way.
On the other hand, the photo below is an extreme example, but an interesting one, so I wanted to include it. The takeaway from this could be to simply add a trio of pillows in red, white, and blue to your couch.

In my house for the Fourth of July, I will usually just bring in a few simple ideas rather than go crazy. We never host this holiday, but I do enjoy decorating for it. Often, it will include vintage elements as well. Here are a few simple ideas I’ve used myself.
- Blue and white transferware on open shelves
- Antique quilts folded in baskets or draped over a bench
- Fresh berries displayed in vintage bowls
- Stacked vintage books with faded red spines

Whether you like it simple and classic, or big and bold, incorporating red, white, and blue is a fun way to celebrate the Fourth of July at home.
A Classic Red, White, and Blue Tablescape
The most practical way to decorate for the 4th of July is to create a pretty tablescape, especially if you’re hosting.
The table setting below caught my eye due to the use of vintage red and blue plates. I also love the checkered napkins; gingham is currently back in style, and I love it.

The addition of the seashells used on the table incorporates that summer coastal vibe that feels very New England.
Tablescape Elements to Try

Using dishware in red, white, and blue is a simple way to dress your table. A striped tablecloth or napkins, with navy blue plate charges, looks elegant paired with a centerpiece of white roses. The repeating elements look elegant and not cheesy.
