Don’t you just love a pretty living room that looks collected over time? Layering items is a great way to get that look without the wait.

I saw the living room above recently and fell in love with it. Even though there are a lot of things going on in this room, it still feels calm and inviting.

I thought this would be a great “get this look” post since I haven’t done one of those in a while!

The striped armchair in the inspiration room is a great base. There’s a pattern for interest but the colors are muted so it doesn’t feel too busy.

The red and blue patterned area rug resembles a vintage Turkish rug. The bold colors and large pattern help to ground the room.

The curtains have a subtle pattern that pairs so well with the stripes on the chair. Also neutral, they don’t compete with the pattern on the rug or the chairs.

The chandelier in the inspiration photo leans toward the Gothic revival style. It’s completely unexpected with the other, more classic elements which makes it more interesting.

The accessories, such as this cool pillow, books on the shelf, and garden stool all have similar shades of brown which pulls them all together.

Notice the ottoman, the lamp, and the garden stool. They’re also dispersed throughout the room which keeps your eye moving.

The mix of colors in the vintage books on the shelves not only ties into the accessories but also the rug and the gold frame over the mantel. This again allows your eye to travel around the room.
