Homemade DIY Christmas Table Decorations Ideas
SIMPLE YET CREATIVE HOMEMADE DIY CHRISTMAS TABLE DECORATIONS IDEAS FOR YOU!

This Christmas feels a little extra special for us.
It’s our first one celebrating in the house my husband grew up in, the same room where we all gathered around this table year after year. Decorating it now, with our own mix of vintage touches and handmade pieces, feels like weaving our story into theirs in the sweetest way.
Homemade DIY Christmas Table Decorations Ideas for a Cozy, Vintage-Inspired Dining Room

If you’re on the hunt for homemade DIY Christmas table decorations that are classic and super easy, welcome to my dining room. I like to think of this room as vintage flair meets traditional holiday.
This year’s Christmas tablescape is all about mixing a few natural materials with traditional dishes and vintage linens, keeping things elegant without feeling fussy. Think lace, candlelight, and a beautiful amaryllis as a centerpiece.
Let me walk you through our traditional Christmas dining room, Christmas playlist strongly encouraged.
A Lace Tablecloth + Vintage Tapestry: Setting the Stage

What really sparked this whole table setting was the unexpected pairing of a lace tablecloth with a vintage tapestry. I actually grabbed the tapestry from my antique booth one day when it suddenly hit me – why not use it on the table? Tapestries are having a moment right now, even though they’re not usually my style, but turning one into a table linen felt like such a fun, unexpected twist.
The feminine lace tablecloth (see similar here) paired with the moodier tapestry adds instant character and interest. It feels cozy and collected. It adds this warm, story-filled vibe that makes the table feel special without trying too hard. Exactly the mood I wanted for Christmas.
The tapestry features dark colors that tie the whole table together, as well as deer, which tie into my overall decor. The tapestry acts as a table runner, though I placed it diagonally across our dining table rather than straight down the center of the table.
If you don’t have any vintage tapestries around (like this one or this one), you can find a table runner tapestry to get the same look.
The DIY Amaryllis Centerpiece

I wanted a fresh floral arrangement for the center of the table that would last throughout the season. That’s why I’m such a fan of real amaryllis bulbs; they’re gorgeous even before they bloom, so we get to enjoy them for weeks. And hopefully they burst into full color just in time for Christmas Day.
This is not the first time I’ve used amaryllis in my Christmas centerpieces; I just love them. And they’re easier and less messy than buying a bouquet from the grocery store.
This is a waxed amaryllis, which means the bulb was dipped in a protective wax (which is why it’s red). It doesn’t need watering, just some indirect sunlight. After the holidays, the wax can be removed and the bulb saved for next year.
I nestled the bulb in a gold pedestal bowl. Around the bulb, I tucked in holly berries and evergreen cuttings from the yard. Another idea would be to tuck in some mini Christmas ornaments or pine cones.
As it grows, I may change the container to something taller. It depends on how big and/or top-heavy it becomes.
If you’re brainstorming homemade DIY Christmas table decorations ideas that feel personal and low-stress, a living centerpiece is the way to go. No wiring, no floral foam, no 47-step tutorials.
diy Napkin Rings (So easy)

Next up: DIY napkin rings. These are the small details that make the whole table feel intentional.
I found these cranberry and pink gift bows while shopping at TJ Maxx, and knew instantly I wanted to use them on my holiday table. Seriously, I waited in the longest line ever just for these.
The color of the bow ties in perfectly with my Christmas color scheme this year. Additionally, I knew I had these cranberry linen napkins that would also match well. So rather than using the bows on gifts, I tied them around the napkins as napkin holders.
I kept each of the place settings simple with only the napkins and a mini votive candle near each plate. Because the table linens are so pretty, I didn’t want to cover up too much of them.
It doesn’t get easier than that. You could also tuck in a simple sprig of rosemary for effect and a little additional greenery.
Candles + Soft Glow: Creating That Magical Christmas Mood

For the rest of the table, I used mostly candles, vintage glassware, and my brass deer statue that lives there all year round.
Nothing creates a beautiful table easier than candles paired with fresh greenery or fresh flowers.
I used a mix of taper candles and small glass votives in different sizes to layer the light without blocking conversation. This is one of those classic DIY Christmas table decoration ideas that never goes out of style. On the actual holiday, I may mix in some fairy lights to make it even more special.
The more candles, the more ambiance. They’re essential for elegant Christmas table decor.
Rather than my usual white candles, I used cranberry red this year to lean into the traditional vibe we are feeling in this house.
Pro tip: If you’re aiming for warm, glowy photos, dim the overhead lights and let the candles do the heavy lifting. I also recommend portrait mode on the iPhone for a perfectly blurred background. It’s especially good for photos in front of a lit Christmas tree.
A Peek at the Rest of the Dining Room Christmas Decorations

While the dining room table with the antique plate wall is the focal point, I sprinkled a little bit of Christmas magic around the room, nothing too over the top.
My favorite Christmas decoration of all this year is the I believe in Santa Claus sign I hung over our dining room window. That was a Facebook marketplace score, and I couldn’t love it more. I also added a faux garland around this window.

That garland is decent, but if you’re looking for a really good one, I invested in this realistic cedar garland this year, and I love it (I used it outside). I liked it so much I ordered another set after receiving the first one.
On the built-in shelves, I kept it very minimalist with preserved boxwood wreaths I’ve had forever and more fresh greenery cut from the yard.

If your decorating style leans minimalist or “I have three minutes before guests arrive,” this approach is perfect.
On the sideboard, I put out a few small but adorable vintage decorations. That mini Radio Flyer wagon is the cutest, and the pixie elves and sheep are all vintage.

Pulling It All Together: A Christmas Table That Feels Warm, Welcoming

Creating a beautiful holiday table doesn’t require a shopping spree or days of crafting. I shopped my own house for this table without buying anything other than the gift bows.
As we settle into this first Christmas in my husband’s childhood home, I’m reminded how special it is to layer our own traditions onto the ones that came before us. Decorating this dining room, the family gathering place for so many years, felt like the sweetest mix of nostalgia and new beginnings. I hope these simple, handmade touches inspire you to create a table that feels just as personal and meaningful in your own home. And who knows… maybe one day these decorations will be part of the stories you look back on, too.
With a few thoughtful touches like a living amaryllis centerpiece, handmade napkin rings, layered linens, and warm candlelight, you can create a dining room that feels cozy, vintage-inspired, and reflective of your personal touch. I hoped this helps put you into the holiday spirit!
