Brick Flooring In Our Sunroom

You guys, I’m excited to share the brick flooring in our sunroom with you today!
When I tell you I spent months searching for the perfect brick tile, I am not exaggerating! I went to several stores and ordered many samples online. You may remember that from the last house reno update I shared.
Each one was either too dark, too gray, or too small. Until I went to my local Tile Shop and instantly found the perfect brick tile flooring!
During Construction

Our sunroom initially started out as a simple enclosed porch, but somehow morphed into a sunroom along the way. I had brick flooring in mind from day 1. I love natural stone, and I wanted to give it an indoor/outdoor look.
We had a big delay during construction, waiting on windows, but in a way, that helped me to have more time searching for the flooring.
Why We Chose Brick Flooring For The Sunroom

We chose brick tile for the sunroom mostly because I’ve always wanted brick floors, and I do love the natural look. Fortunately, these brick tiles do not have to be sealed.
The surface of the brick has a rough texture that looks and feels exactly like real brick. The variation in color makes it look more like old brick, which is something I love.
Blending in a good amount of old house charm to help offset all the new has been a top priority for me throughout the home. I look forward to showing you guys more of that soon!
Why herringbone?

I asked our tile guys to set these in a herringbone pattern, another design feature I’ve always wanted. I did a trial layout to see how it might look (pictured above).
Herringbone floors lend a bit more of a high-end design look while still being classic. The pattern has been a long-time favorite of mine for flooring.
It’s a popular choice if you’re looking for an eye-catching pattern!
The installation process
These tiles come in individual bricks (not on a sheet), so it was no easy task setting each one by hand. It took them a full 2-3 days to complete the entire floor.

I went with white grout because I love how the individual bricks looked paired with the white. This is going to require lots of cleaning on my part, but it’ll be worth it.

For the threshold between the sunroom and the kitchen, they used straight bricks. I love how this looks, but not sure if it’ll change once our hardwood flooring is completed and the door is installed between the rooms.

The tile guys did an amazing job!

The brick floor tiles add both visual interest and a timeless touch, which fits with the classic but not basic look I’ve been going for throughout this house.
It was a great group effort, with the tile experts at the store and the installers all helping to bring my design ideas to life.
brick tile maintenance and upkeep

I’ve cleaned these floors a few times already because the contractors are still in and out. I used Bona Stone and Tile cleaner. They cleaned up beautifully and easily.
As I mentioned, with the white grout, I will have to keep up with these often, but the look of traditional brick is worth it to me.

Here you can find the exact tiles I used in our sunroom. If you’re local to NJ, it was the Ocean store that I went to, and the associates were wonderful.
And here is a quick video tour I had shared on Instagram & YouTube if you want a better idea of how they look.
Decorating the sunroom

So far, I painted the walls white to let the floors take center stage. I may add color later, but for now, I’m completely over painting – we’re doing the whole house ourselves, and I’m more than ready to be done with this phase!
Decorating this room is going to be fun, I have no shortage of decor to work with!
Before diving into decorating, I’ll be starting with window treatments. This room heats up in the afternoon sun, so I need something insulated to help keep it cool in the summer months.
Furniture for the sunroom, however, has me a bit stumped. I’m aiming for comfortable furniture that’s perfect for relaxing, but finding pieces that are both stylish and cozy isn’t always easy!
Rarely do I buy vintage upholstered pieces, but I may make an exception in this space.
If you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments!
