Sunroom Christmas Decorating Ideas
STEAL OUR COZY SUNROOM CHRISTMAS DECORATING IDEAS USING NATURAL GREENERY, VINTAGE TOUCHES, AND BUDGET-FRIENDLY WAYS TO DECORATE A REAL TREE.
You know how some rooms just come alive at Christmas? I’m feeling that way about all of our new home. I’ve been really enjoying my time decorating this holiday season.
For our sunroom, I wanted to create a garden-style scene, inspired by my favorite store(other than antique stores), Terrain. I usually visit Terrain in PA this time of year because it always puts me in the holiday spirit.
Garden-style sunroom Christmas decor
I started with a medium-sized real Christmas tree, nothing fancy, and layered the space with fresh greenery I clipped from the yard.
Of course, I mixed in a good amount of vintage items, including my old cutter quilt, to cozy things up. It came together in the perfectly imperfect, “I didn’t spend all afternoon fussing with this” way, even though we all know I absolutely did!
our medium-sized real tree

We have a beautiful full-sized Christmas tree in our living room, but I really wanted to add a smaller, second tree in the sunroom.
Because this is a small space, I considered a skinny tree; however, I don’t love those as much as a full tree. With a full tree, you don’t need as many ornaments and decorations to fill it, which works better with my garden theme.
Black Friday was the perfect time to buy a tree. We snagged this little 3 – 4′ tree at Lowe’s for just $22. For a rustic touch, I tucked it into an old green bucket. I kept the decorating simple with just a few ornaments, one strand of garland, and plenty of red and pink velvet ribbon to finish it off.
I also picked up a couple of the pink poinsettias at Lowe’s on Black Friday -they were too pretty to pass up. The pink, green, and red palette ties in perfectly with the colors I used on our living room tree.

The poinsettia came in a plastic pot, so I put it into an old crock I had instead. This is why I hoard vintage containers of all kinds. Not only for plants, but even used for greenery clippings, or bulbs such as paperwhite or amaryllis. It’s a good way to add a personal touch.
bring the outdoors in

I found this swan planter at an estate sale this fall, and it was such a good score! Rather than leaving it outside for the winter, I brought it in to complement my garden theme. To fill it, I cut holly berry branches and some other greenery from trees in the yard.
As you’ll see, I used evergreen clippings throughout this room. We have a primitive old shelf hanging above our sunroom sofa that’s filled with all my mini baskets. Rather than swap those out for Christmas, I just filled the baskets with additional holly cuttings.

Our new home doesn’t have a fireplace, so there’s no mantel for hanging stockings. This peg shelf made a good alternative this year.
Another way I brought the outdoors in was by using a magnolia garland over the sunroom doors.

That is actually a faux garland, but it looks realistic! (I won’t tell if you don’t.) I have two of those, and since I’ve bought them, I find a spot to use them every single Christmas and sometimes in the fall. Those were a good purchase.
cozy layers with vintage textiles

Our sunroom sofa was a vintage find. However, it’s not the most comfortable, so its days are numbered. The cushions were a horrible shade of green, so I covered them with these cushion covers.
For the holiday, I also placed my vintage green and white cutter quilt over it, and I just love how that looks.
Unfortunately, this spot is my cat’s favorite place to nap, so I can’t leave the quilt here permanently. Due to its age, it tends to fall apart and fray in the washing machine. I learned that the hard way.
In addition to the quilt, I loaded up this couch with pillows for extra coziness.
Even the coffee table has a bit of vintage fabric. When I’m at the flea market, I grab any fabrics with pretty patterns. I always end up finding a use for them.

On the other side of the sunroom, I hung an antique Santa painting over the writing desk.

It’s a pretty little scene that makes me happy. That beautiful, Charles Dickens-inspired candleholder was found recently at an antique market. It was the perfect accent paired with the painting. (Here is a similar candleholder at a great price.)
The combination gives a definite old-world Christmas look that I love.
christmas sunroom decorating – finishing touches

On the French doors, I hung two metal wreaths (here are similar wreaths) trimmed with wide red ribbon. I’ve wanted to paint these doors a color for months. I even have the paint, but I just never got around to it yet. That is a high-priority project in the new year.
On the coffee table, I placed a plastic pot filled with Paperwhite bulbs into a small wooden crate. I filled that in with holly branches. It’s simple but so pretty. I’m hoping those bloom for Christmas.

The sunroom has a lot of windows, and I experimented with a few different Christmas decorating ideas on those. Ultimately, I went with very simple reindeer ornaments hung on the curtain clips and paper star collages in between. I bought the stars, but you can make your own paper stars easily enough.
I’ve had these reindeer ornaments for years, but this set of ornaments is almost identical. The rest of the room is colorful, so I kept this subtle.

I also love to wrap gifts as beautifully as I can. Not only does it make for a nice presentation, but the gifts double as decor in the meantime.

As you can see, they are sprinkled throughout the room.
Budget-Friendly Christmas Decorating Ideas I Used in Our Sunroom
Almost all the holiday decor in this room was budget-friendly. Most of it was made with things I already had on hand, clippings from the yard, or vintage pieces I’ve collected over the years. It’s proof that you don’t need a big budget to make a space feel festive, cozy, and completely transformed for Christmas.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the budget-friendly, easy ways I added Christmas touches that made the biggest impact in this room.
- Fresh greenery from the yard – A zero-cost way to make the sunroom smell amazing and look fuller without buying extra decor.
- Vintage pieces I already owned – Like the old cutter quilt, which added instant warmth and character, and the Santa painting.
- Repurposed garden containers – The swan planter was the perfect accent for our Christmas sunroom.
- Ribbon – Ribbon is an easy way to add a festive touch and goes a long way in holiday decorating. Here I used it on my tree, on the wreaths, the Christmas stockings, and on the gifts! I save it and reuse it every year.
- Candles – Small tealight candles are cheap and add tons of ambiance. I have them sprinkled throughout the house! (These candleholders are great, they can be used for tealights or tapers!)
And honestly, the low-cost ideas ended up being some of my favorite details in the whole room.
If you don’t have access to fresh greenery, I am not opposed to faux greenery. It has its advantages, such as being reusable every year, it’s not messy, and you can decorate earlier because it won’t dry out. I often use a mix of both.
A cozy Christmas corner

I love how this cozy Christmas corner turned out – with just a mini tree, a cheerful poinsettia, and a handful of garden elements layered in for charm. It’s proof that even the smallest spaces can invoke the Christmas spirit with just a few thoughtful touches.
Our sunroom addition is definitely our favorite room in the house. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy morning coffee (or an afternoon hot chocolate) and start the day looking out into nature rather than on our phone or watching the news.
This little sunroom has quickly become my cozy retreat. The simple holiday decor makes the whole space feel warm, relaxed, and perfectly festive.
I hope our sunroom Christmas decorating gave you some ideas for your own space! If so, please comment and share, it helps support my website more than you’d think!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
