Summer

porch plants

Making the most of a small front porch is easy with a few simple tricks.  We use container gardens filled with seasonal plants on ours to help boost curb appeal.

Our narrow porch is almost all shade so adding plants with bright color can be more difficult than it is in full sun areas.  Fortunately you do have options!

This year we used several flowers in yellow to really make the porch pop when you walk up.  Here you can see a mix of begonias, impatiens, coleus and ferns in our container garden.

We also tucked ivy into the sides so as it grows it will spill over the sides.  The coleus will grow tall in a few weeks and that will give this arrangement height as well.

The yellow begonias are the star of the show this year.  They grow well in full shade or partial shade.  They mix well in containers with virtually any other plants!

Staggering your planters at varying heights helps to create interest as well as to maximize space.  Going vertical is a great small space decorating tip, even outdoors!
