Harvesting

flower seeds

With Summer winding down, now is the time to harvest your flower seeds for replanting next year.

Zinnia's

To harvest Zinnia seeds, allow the flower to dry up before picking it.

The Zinnia should look like this.  The seeds are located in the flower head, you can discard the petals.

Rub the flower head between your fingers to knock off the seeds.  There will be some chaff mixed in that will need to be separated.

The seeds are shaped like grains of rice and will have little "tails" sticking out.  Those can be removed.

Cosmos

We also harvest Cosmo seeds for next year.  Here you can see that Cosmo seeds are long and black.

Storage

Store your seeds in paper envelopes until next year.  We also made cute  labels for our seeds packs.
