Installing Vinyl Plank Flooring

Why use vinyl plank flooring?

Vinyl plank flooring is an excellent alternative to hardwood.  They're more cost-effective, easier to maintain, and installing them is a relatively easy DIY project!

No Underlayment Needed

A huge bonus to using vinyl plank flooring is most of them come with a built-in underlayment., eliminating the need to install one.  This saves time & money.

Start in one corner.

To begin, start in one corner and work your way out from there.  We started in a closet to get the hang of it.  You'll need to add spacers between the wall & your first row.

Laying the planks.

The floors snap together with a built-in tongue and groove.  Be sure to stagger the seams as you go so they don't line up exactly.

Securing the planks.

After you snap them in place, use a tapping block and a hammer to be sure they are locked in.

Cutting planks with no power tools.

A floor cutter tool makes cutting  the planks super easy and mess-free!

Cutting awkward areas

For cutting around awkward areas, like floor vents, we found using a small jigsaw was the easiest way.

It's that easy!

Installing vinyl plank flooring takes a little bit of elbow grease but it's definitely easy enough for even a beginner!
