Floor Stickers in The Bathroom!

bathrom floor tile ideas, floor stickers

As I mentioned last week, I really jumped into this $100 Room Challenge without any kind of design plan, which is never good when you’re on a deadline. However, one thing I knew from the start was I wanted to try something fun on the floor in this little bathroom. I had seen these removable floor stickers from Snazzy Decal* and wanted to try them.

I chose this pattern which is exactly what I had envisioned from the start. While browsing I noticed this pattern was only listed as available in black and white. I sent the shop owner a message and she let me know she can customize the color of the stickers so if you don’t see exactly what you’re looking for, ask!

Installing The Floor Stickers

I started out applying the full-sized tile stickers first.

installing floor decals

To apply the stickers, you fold down about one inch of the backing and line that part up on your floor so it’s straight. Then peel the rest of the backing off from underneath, using a ruler to smooth down the top as you go. Snazzy Decal has a video you can view here that shows just how simple this is.

For the awkward area around the toilet, I put the sticker in place and traced with a pencil where I needed to cut it down.

It really couldn’t have been any simpler. I have to say this is the easiest DIY I’ve ever done around here! With amazing results no less! I also painted the grout, which was previously brown to gray so it would better match the new floor.

The Challenge

If you missed the previous posts on this bathroom makeover or if you’re wondering what the heck this challenge is all about, read my first $100 Room Challenge post here.

This is the wall decor I mentioned in the budget last week. I had a coupon when I purchased this, it was a total score for only $12 and perfectly fits this space!

You can find the hand towel here. I didn’t count that in the budget because I used my saved rewards certificates to get two of those. The art above the toilet is old. I used to have these hanging in my family room but had taken them down about a year ago. I’m glad I saved them because they work well in here. I wanted to keep a little bit of coastal vibe in this bathroom. The coral can be switched out for photos when I get tired of these.

Here’s a wider view of that side.

This isn’t the prettiest view, but I wanted you to see how neat the floor looks here too. These floor stickers are waterproof and can be cleaned with a mop.

I knew this project was a success when my husband and both kids commented on how much they love it. They’re so used to my DIY’s they barely notice anymore, lol.

It took me longer to make those cabinet handles than it did to install these floor stickers!

update your floors the easy way with tile stickers or tile decals!

Amazing, isn’t it? These decals aren’t limited to floors, they can be used over any tiles and come in a variety of sizes.

Here’s a quick video tour of the bathroom that I had shared in my Instagram stories.

Update:  How They’re Holding Up:

I get so many questions on these floors! It’s been a year now since I’ve installed the tile decals and for the most part, they’re holding up well! I have had to replace two of them where the edges started to peel up and I couldn’t get them to stick anymore. I would say when installing these make sure those corners are down well. If they start to peel up fix it right away before dirt and debris get underneath making it impossible to get it to stick again.

Here is my budget breakdown:

Total spent:

Zinsser primer: $13

A gallon of Behr Paint: $24

Wall Decor $12

Materials for Door Pulls:  $6

Spray Paint: $6

Grout Renew Paint:  $12

Floor Stickers: $48 (this is what it would cost for a dozen 12″ floor stickers)

Total: $121

  11. Whoa! Floor stickers!!! I’ve never heard of these and they look amazing in your bathroom. I’ve been trying to convince my hubs that I should paint some of our tile floors and he is so not on board with it, but he might go for it if he knows they are stickers! Your reveal is beautiful and I love the artwork – $12 was a major score for that!

  12. This looks great! I didn’t know there was such a thing as a floor sticker! Cool!

  13. Awesome!! Very nicely you’re hiding awkward area around the toilet with the sticker. After all, these floor stickers are waterproof and can be cleaned with a mop who don’t want to try it? I think I’ve to also think to use in my bathroom. Thanks for sharing Roxanne.

  14. Love the floor stickers! How well do they hold up?

    1. It’s only been about 2 weeks since I put them in, but so far they are holding up very well!

      1. Stephanie says:

How well are they holding up now a year later?

        1. Overall very well. I have had some peeling up in the corners. I used a drop of hot glue in those areas to keep them down. I did replace one sticker completely, it started to peel up and because I didn’t get to it soon enough, it ripped. All in all, we are talking just a few minutes of maintenance. I would use them again in a situation where tiles couldn’t be ripped up and replaced.

  15. Cheryl Frank says:

Can the floor stickers be put on top of lino? Do you have to have grout?

  16. I can’t believe you did all that for $121. For not having a plan initially, you did such a beautiful job pulling everything together! Who knew floor stickers existed. I will definitely check those out!

  17. Hazel Bolger says:

  22. I have never!!! These are amazing. I looovvveee how it turned out so much. Wow.

  23. I’m curious with shoes in my hall bathroom (no shower water) Soojust curious we company going in with shoes on and scraping the stickers. Are the rubbery?

    1. This is our main bathroom, and we often have shoes on in there. It’s only been a few weeks but so far so good!

  24. Roxanne, this is gorgeous! I’m going to be doing some research on those floor stickers and I’m anxious to hear how they hold up. Fabulous job – Love your DIY handles!

  25. I love this! You’ll have to do an update on how it holds up with cleaning. I’m curious to know if the edges come up and how it holds up after constant use.

  28. So pretty!! Do you know or think you could use the stickers on linoleum flooring? Do have to use them on tile?

    1. Thanks Keelia, I’m pretty sure you can use these on almost anything!

  29. Love the transformation! Totally curious about those floor stickers however…….there was a time I used black contact paper on white ceramic tile in a guest bath and looked totally cool, though not a room that got much use. What kind of guarantee do these stickers offer? Please share more info re these floor stickers because I’ve already been on the website and not finding what I want to know………THANKS!

    1. Hi Julie, I’m not sure if they come with any guarantees, but if you go to the website you can message the shop owner with your questions. She was wonderful to work with!

  30. Absolutely incredible. I may just give these stickers a try. I need to update my flooring, but this would be an in the meantime project.

  33. Thanks for linking up to Thursday Favorite Things! I will be featuring you at tomorrow’s party on my blog!

  34. I think you did an amazing job, it looks awesome!!!
Do you have any kind of update now that it has bee a few months? Any peeling of corners/edges, or scuffs, etc?
Also, we have tile that looks VERY similar to yours in color and style, but some of our tiles have slight variations in height, mostly flat, but a few areas of higher or lower elevation, kinda like a large scale texture to mimic a natural cut stone. Are yours like this too? Would you see this being an issue in getting the stickers to adhere well, or are they pretty forgiving and easily stretched to flatten around these areas?
(I found your site on Pinterest, now Im hooked, BEAUTIFUL HOME.)

    1. Hi Dee, my tiles are textured as well, I think it makes the decals look more realistic! The decals are really holding up well, I love them!! Thank you!

  35. eli haarlander says:

I’m so curious how these are holding up 9 months later? does dirt, hair, lint get caught in any exposed adhesive area? do the corners or sides come up with repeated mopping?

    1. Hi Eli, yes I found that some of the corners were beginning to peel up slightly due to mopping. However, I used just a tiny drop of glue in those corners to tack them back down and it hasn’t been a problem since!

  36. Wondering if you can coat them with a polyurethane sealer to protect them and keep the corners from coming up. I’m considering stenciling, but these are beautiful! Great job.

  37. Gina Burnet says:

Love the floor. Can’t wait to try those in our bathroom. What color is on your cabinets?

    1. The cabinets are Paris Gray chalk paint by Annie Sloan.

  38. Love this so much. How have they held up over time?

    1. Thanks, Megan. For the most part, they’ve held up very well. There were a few spots that started to come up on the edges, so I had to secure them back down. My tiles are raised and slope down a bit on the corners so that may be why. Just make sure they’re on there well when installing and you should be fine.

  39. Kristen henry says:

I am getting ready to build a 1/2 bath iN a very small space. Im curios, what are Your dimensions? Thank you

  40. I so want to do this. But my tIles are not exactly 12 x 12.. ThEy are more like 11 7/8. were your towels exactly 12 inches?

  41. Are these still holding up? Im looking to do this in our main bathroom so lots of traffic!

  42. I recently moved in with my partner. A new house we bought together. We had to plan and set up everything in a very short time. Finding the right appliances for the kitchen, setting up the bedroom, the outdoor and the garage. The toughest was the living room. Thank you for sharing the it. Articles and ideas like yours had really helped us get done with things conveniently. There is still a lot for us to do. Bit by bit we are getting there:)

  43. Please report on the state of your tile stickers now 3 years later. Thanks!

  44. Is there any sort of protector that could be applied on top of the sticker to prolong its life?? A pint sealant or something??

  45. Wow, These are amazing. I love how it turned out.

  46. This looks amazing in the bathroom. This is great inspiration!
