Burlap Christmas Trees

How to Make Burlap Christmas trees

Have you started your Christmas decorating yet? I haven’t done too much so far because major construction has begun on my kitchen (see where I’m starting in this room here)  this weekend, and my house is a bit of a construction zone. Which is fine with me, I couldn’t be happier that this kitchen is finally getting some love. I’ll share some updates on the progress soon. In the meantime, my Christmas decor will likely be on the minimal side this year.

One little project I did get around to is these burlap Christmas trees. I made this with burlap ribbon I found while shopping in Hobby Lobby one day. I didn’t know what I would use it for when I bought it, I just knew I wanted to use it somewhere.

Then some of my best blogging friends and I decided to challenged ourselves to come up with a Christmas project using burlap. I thought about using the ribbon for ornaments or to make decorative trees. I decided to go with the trees, but I may use the leftover ribbon to make ornaments as well later on.

If you would like to make your own burlap Christmas trees, you will need:  Styrofoam cones, similar Burlap ribbon*,  mini tree topper (I found the mini snowflakes at Michael’s, and gift trim.

Start by wrapping the ribbon around the tree form in sections, securing with hot glue. I made sure to begin  and end each section in the same area, on the back of the tree.

Once the tree is wrapped, use the gift trim to wrap around the tree, covering the sections where the burlap meets. Secure the trim at the ends with hot glue.

I embellished the top with little snowflakes I picked up at Michael’s, and used a little bead from the gift trim on top of the snowflake.

I arranged the burlap trees  my on a cake stand with mini ornaments surrounding it. I added that, and a few other little Christmas touches, to my bar cart.
